August date for Lights at Woden
Lighting was part of the design for Eddison Park, so it’s a little disappointing that 8 months after the park has opened it’s still not lit. Given Canberra’s short winter days, those that attend school, university or work in business hours are missing out. ACTEW is saying August for substation installation.

NEW BELCONNEN SKATE PARK AND LAKESHORE UPGRADES
Published: June 3, 2010, 11:06 am
Section: Jon Stanhope, MLA | Media Releases
Belconnen residents will benefit from a $4.2 million investment by the Rudd Labor Government and ACT Government for a new skate park near the Eastern Valley Way Inlet in Belconnen and upgrades to the adjacent foreshore.
Parliamentary Secretary, the Hon Maxine McKew and ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope inspected the site of the project today, which is expected to support up to 24 jobs during construction of the skate park, and as many as 50 jobs over the life of the project.
“This joint Federal and ACT Government project will deliver a brand new, state-of-the-art facility for skateboarders and BMX riders to replace the existing skate park, and improvements to the adjacent foreshore area, which is a popular recreation spot for Belconnen families,” Mr Stanhope said.
“The skate park is part of a wider $7.7 million foreshore redevelopment that will see the Lake Ginninderra foreshore refreshed in the coming years with new shaded seating areas, a drinking fountain, boardwalks, and paths for cyclists. New lighting will ensure the skate park and surrounding area can be enjoyed in greater safety and with greater confidence by Belconnen residents, for more hours of the day.”
“I commend the Rudd Labor Government for providing funding for this important community infrastructure project.”
Ms McKew said the Commonwealth’s $2 million contribution was part of the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, which is delivering a record $1 billion for nearly 5,000 projects across the nation.
“This project is about creating jobs in the local economy today while delivering lasting benefits for the Belconnen community,” Ms McKew said.
“Across Australia, we are building and modernising community facilities, including town halls, libraries, community centres and sportsgrounds.
“The Rudd Labor Government is partnering with all levels of government – state, territory and local to support the economy while building community infrastructure for the future.”
Mr Stanhope said planning was also under way for improvements to the water quality in the Eastern Valley Way Inlet.
