The Youth Plaza was officially launched today bythe Chief Minister Jon Stanhope MLA and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development
and Local Government The Hon Anthony Albanese, MP.
There is an opening scheduled for November,
and also the Woden Festival for the end of October.
Both these events will feature skateboarding.
Luke Brown of the Canberra Skateboarding Association was able to speak on ABC Radio, WIN news and also appeared in the Canberra Times alongside colleague Mat Casey. Great news for all the hard work everyone of the CSA has put in to date. Thanks also to Lea Durie of TAMS for all of their efforts.

Eddison plan - aerial view
August 4th 2009
Well construction has started. Convic won the skatepark construction part of the tender.
Manteena are project managing. Fingers crossed for completion by September 30th 2009.
We’re looking at running a street competition at the opening perhaps, double up lines on the rails. A cashgrab event.
February 28th 2009
Convic hosted a concept plan viewing at the Eddison Park site today and it was a great success. People from various age groups visited and commented positively on the draft plan which included a flow / transition area between 4 and 6 foot, an 8 foot bowl, a plaza area with rails, ledges and hubbas, shading, solar panels, a stage, rock climbing wall and basketball court. The idea is to include audio and projection features also. It would be great to be able to host the opening of a new skateboard video at the actual park! The sister of the Eddison brothers whom the memorial park is named after attended, and she was excited about the project. Convic staff listened attentively and took people’s feedback which will now flow into further development of the concept.
On Friday 27th February, the tender for a project manager closed.
It is understood that this Project Manager will facilitate the design into fruition.
Things are rapidly moving forward for a new youth plaza. Exciting times!
January 2009 – early February 2009
Commendably the Chief Minister chose the CSA’s proposal for a new facility. This combined with the upgrade to the Eddison Park Master plan meetings which were attended by the CSA (Luke Brown, and more consistently David Pang) has lead to the opportunity of a new Youth Facility for Woden. Lea Durie of PCL/TaMs has coordinated a scoping consultation with Convic as the design team scheduled to come up with concept plans by February 2009. This will include public consultation as undertaken on Wednesday 28th January and further opportunities.
