Ongoing vandalism and damage to the pool block tiles has been willfully occurring at the Eddison Park skatepark in Woden for over a year. Recently kids have been observed using tools to break and lever off the tiles. It has been reported anectdotally that these kids are scooter riders who don’t like the “bump” that is part of the feature of the pool coping. This feature was part of the design for Woden skatepark to emulate the style of pool riding. It’s the only skatepark in Canberra to have this “pool section” feature. It’s tragic that kids are willfully trying to damage it when there is plenty of other normal coping areas throughout the park to utilise.
Over the period this has cost ACT Government, the Canberra Skateboarding Association and the community a significant amount of time and money invested to manage the issue. Throughout the school holidays damage has continued to occur. In the last few days the blocks have all been replaced.
If you see any kids attempting to damage the skatepark, please call the Police to attend immediately on 131 444. Take photos or video footage of them if you can.
